Episode 7-Maryam Moosavi
Monday Sep 02, 2019
Monday Sep 02, 2019
Maryam Moosavi recently stepped into the Comic Talk Studios! We had a really good talk about her joke "Tinder". We also chatted about joke writing, joke placement in sets, and how she got a huge break at work. Here's a hint about her huge break at her job. She was already practicing and waiting for the opportunity. When the opportunity presented itself, she was ready. This says so much about life folks!
I adore Maryam and I've probably known here the longest of all the Sacramento Comics. It's been so great to see her rise and grind on the local scene. It's also great to just have her as a friend, a comforting smile to see at open mics and shows where sometimes it's hard to stay loose.
I hope you enjoy the show because I really enjoyed her company.

Episode 6-David Thorne
Friday Aug 30, 2019
Friday Aug 30, 2019
The Southern Reject Mr David Thorne recently stepped into the Comic Talk Studios. We had a nice conversation about comedy after listening to his joke Minor Hill....and that's not Minor like...I'll let him explain this to y'all. David is a great guy. New to the Comedy Scene just like me and he's always out at the mics trying to learn to make people laugh. His jokes are really clever and cover an array of subjects. You most definitely cannot judge the book by it's cover with David.
David is a great example of the people comedy forces you to meet. Because if I was just out doing my thing minding my own business not doing comedy and saw this dude I would do everything I could to avoid him. He looks like some tough outlaw biker just looking for a skull to crush. But because we're both comics we get put together in small rooms while we quietly wait for other comics to do their thing. It's here where I started to realize not only what a cool dude he is but what a nice dude he is. I wish this guy the best of luck but he's a hard worker so he's only going to need a little bit of luck to go along with that work ethic. I'll keep saying it man, hard workers make their own luck.
David talks about moving to California, his beard, and much much more. Check it out, thanks for stopping by. If you like the joke you heard and want to hear more you can see his Punch Line set here. I really recommend you give it a listen. Follow Mr Thorne on Instagram and Facebook and I'm sure you all recognize the amazing art by Mr Lilley below.

Episode 5 Danni D
Sunday Aug 25, 2019
Sunday Aug 25, 2019
Danni D came by the Comic Talk Podcast recently and we had a chance to catch up and record a new episode of The Comic Talk Podcast for you good people. Danni is super funny, she is super edgy and man sometimes you just never know the direction her set is going to take. This is one reason she is so much fun to watch.
During our chat we get a little bit into what it's like to read a crowd and understand what you're about to get yourself into when you know your material is a little edgy. Danni was kind enough to share one of her jokes with us. The joke has a working title of 'U-Haul' and it's a great joke and I'm really glad she's not finished with this joke yet because I can see it branching off into a few different directions.
I dig getting into the meat and potatoes of a joke to see where it came from and where it's going. We also get a little bit into joke placement and the risk of working some crowd work into your set.
I had a great time hanging out with Dannie and recording this. We hope you enjoy taking a listen and maybe even a laugh or two.
If you enjoyed the joke you just heard you can watch the whole set here. Intro and Outro music is courtesy of Mento Buru.

Episode 4-Emily Pedersen and David Coleman-Live From The Sacramento Comedy Spot
Saturday Aug 17, 2019
Saturday Aug 17, 2019
Hello and welcome back to Comic Talk The Podcast! This show was recorded live at the Sacramento Comedy Spot and features comics David Coleman and Emily Pedersen. Derek Dozier was behind the boards capturing audio and tweaking lights.
I'm really happy with how everything turned out last night. We had a super fun and supportive crowd. The comics told great jokes and then sat down with me for a little interview. We got deep but didn't get too heavy. I picked these two comics because I know their materiel so well and I really thought it would lend well to our format. Their sets were great their interviews were honest. If you made it out to the show last night I thank you! If you were not able to make it out to the show last night then hopefully we will see you very soon! Now sit back and enjoy Comic Talk Live From The Sacramento Comedy Spot!!

Episode 3-Still Just Me
Saturday Aug 10, 2019
Saturday Aug 10, 2019
So this past Thursday night I got to do a Guest Spot on Marcus Mangham and Friends. Guest Spot usually means 5 minutes and you're taking the bullet. Taking the bullet means you're going first. I'm learning all this stuff as I go folks so if I'm messing up on these definitions let a dude know, k? So like I was saying. I prepared for the night with the mindset of I'm going first and I'm doing 5 minutes. Turns out I want second and was given 7.
I am really happy about my set. I got a few laughs and of course a few silences where I expected laughs. The crowd was thirsty my friends. At first they just wanted to laugh by the end of the night some of them wanted to be a part of the show. This is comedy man. You prepare for one thing but you never know how it's going to go and we have to be ready to adapt to the situation.
Even though all these jokes I've done several times. I still forced myself to change at least one tag and left room in my mind to adapt to the crowd and take a riff if I needed to. I felt good but stiff for the first part. Once I got really comfortable I was able to remind myself to walk around and use the stage a bit. But for the most part I was really stationary. I also tried to tell myself to not roll up the mic chord. It's a crazy habit and I can't seem to break myself from it. All this is going on in my head while I'm trying to make strangers laugh. It's a rush folks.
Thursday night was my 99th time up on a stage with a microphone trying to make people laugh. I'm really proud I was a part of a Danielle Marrs produced show. The show took place at The Sacramento Comedy Spot, also on the line up were Robert Berry, Aurora Singh, and Mr Drew Shafer. Marcus Mangham of course headlined and the show was hosted by Mr Chris "Swizz Comedy" Smith.
So, here's a short clip of a joke I like to call 8% Battery Life. Before the show I give a little bit of a set up. I hope you enjoy and I hope you come coming back for more laughs and what not.

Episode 2-Just Me Again
Sunday Aug 04, 2019
Sunday Aug 04, 2019
Here's a short clip of me talking a little bit about letting myself get nervous before going up on stage. The stage this time was WTF Wednesday at Highwater. A cool spot, I really enjoyed telling jokes here. This post is really just an exercise in doing some editing with an existing recording and adding an intro then uploading it. Thanks for even checking out this page and for listening if you made it this far you might as well listen. It's a short clip and I worked really hard if not editing this and putting it up then I worked really hard on just writing this joke and getting up on stage. Show me some love man. Peace. -JR

Here's a short clip of me trying to explain what comic talk is or at least what I'd like Comic Talk to become.
